PHYSICIANS AND MID-LEVEL PROVIDERS

Physician
The Physician is responsible for the clinical care of patients and will conduct inmate sick calls on days and at times authorized by the Facility, review and/or monitor laboratory, X-ray and ancillary reports, provide medical consultations for the medical staff and institutional officials, and provide liaison for clinical matters with medical providers outside the institution.  The Physician also supervises and provides oversight to Mid-level Providers, including review and comment on approximately 10% of Mid-level Provider clinical encounters.

Qualified candidates must have an M.D. degree from an accredited medical school and be licensed in the state where employment is sought.  The Physician must also possess certification in a medical specialty and CPR certification.

Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner
The Mid-level Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) provides diagnostic and therapeutic medical care under the supervision of the Attending Physician according to and in compliance with applicable state regulations.  The Mid-level Provider assists in the assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of the inmates.  He/she carries out his/her duties with minimal direct supervision by a physician.

Qualified candidates must be licensed to practice in the state where employment is being sought and have a minimum of two (2) years previous experience in their respective discipline and possess and maintain current CPR and Medication Certifications.  The Physician Assistant must hold a Bachelors degree from an AMA / AAPA approved Physician Assistant Program.  The Nurse Practitioner must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, and hold an advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Prior medical / surgical or emergency / trauma experience and/or corrections experience is preferred.
